When you’re starting to plan out a new facility, or your current operations need a refresh, it’s easy to overlook the importance of proper shelving. But installing tough, dependable shelving that’s built to grow with your business means improved inventory access, higher throughput, and efficiency for years to come.
When it comes to industrial shelving, there’s a slew of options out there. It can be tough to choose the right equipment from the right supplier, and difficult to size up the exact setup you’ll need, especially if you do not know a beaded post from and angle post. That’s where EFS comes in. We not only want you to succeed in selecting the right shelving for your needs but we hope to share a little knowledge along the way!
During the next few minutes we are going to focus on the types of posts that are available with industrial shelving. It is important to note that although there are multiple shelving types, these posts are very similar from a functionality standpoint for each variety of shelving unit. The majority of posts are broken in to three different types of industrial shelving posts: Angle Post, Beaded Post, and High-Rise Post. Below, we’ll explain each, and discuss which shelving post is best for your specific outfit.
ANGLE POST

Angle post shelving is our bread and butter when it comes to industrial shelves. This post is ideal for standard shelving applications, and it suits the needs of many of our customers. It is available in different steel gauges to accommodate a wide variety of storage applications. Designed for maximum strength and stability, they’re tough enough to stand up to whatever you throw at — or rather, on — them. Angle post also offers the most flexibility, and can be easily rearranged to suit your ever-changing requirements.
BEADED POST

Most beaded posts feature a reduced front flange to provide additional clearance, perfect for applications that need a little more shelf height. Typically, it’s also a hair heartier than our angle post. Folks looking to store things like larger boxes for case picking often find this is a perfect fit for their needs, bringing extra height without sacrificing sturdiness. If you desire a long run of shelving units then beaded posts should be at the top of your list.
HIGH-RISE POST

Last, but certainly not least, is the high-rise post. This is typically around a 14-guage post and is built darn tough, developed by engineers to allow maximum strength for applications that need to withstand a lot of weight at tall heights. This post is ideal for pick modules and multi-level systems that you find in many ecommerce fulfillment and distribution centers. If you are looking to cube out your facility with the use of a multilevel mezzanine then the use of this post could prove to be an incredibly viable solution.
